New Dynasty

Whenever a new artist arrives on the scene with a markedly defiant edge, the media is very quick to establish them as either "rough" or "futuristic pop." But what Camryn is promoting with her new EP entitled "New Dynasty" is the closest thing to post-apocalyptic pop that's ever been unleashed in recent eras.

The artist ruefully combines elements of guitar rock, with EDM and synth-pop sound to deliver an explosive exploration that oozes with a hip mainstream appeal, while still allowing enough growl and thunder to keep it exclusive to some of Los Angeles more high-profile Sunset Strip late-nite live venues. The LA-based singer/songwriter allows her personality to pour through "New Dynasty."

Camryn has generated a lot of attention with the EP's lead single "Machines" which is a heavy-bass/electronic romp. The track is simply produced and gives the artist plenty of room to breath and exorcise her angst. It closes the setlist and is profoundly the most potent of the five tracks featured on the EP. "Machines" is a fanciful blend of pop melodies and electronic rampage at their best.

The rest of the offerings on the EP's setlist share a similar appeal. "Masquerade," the second track, is an instant hit! It has all the production of an instant anthem and still sports enough unique sound not to brand it simply as derivative "rock pop." Camryn has a complete command of her melodies and lyrical content, but some of the songs on "New Dynasty" lack the hooks that would help.

"Stadium" is an interesting track with an elaborate narrative that would be open to countless interpretations, comparing a love affair to obsessive fandom, but is missing the necessary hook to make it radio-friendly. But that's not the goal of every artist that releases new music. Camryn isn't looking to be the next Katy Perry or Taylor Swift. She's chasing after an audience that gets her - not just machines.
