RuPaul, Adam Lambert, Margaret Cho Announced as LA #ResistMarch Speakers

READ TIME: 2 MIN.

As a reaction to anti-LGBTQ moves made by the Trump administration, this year Los Angeles re-branded their Pride Parade to #ResistMarch. And in true Hollywood fashion, the stars will be out to mark the occasion.

As hundreds of thousands are expected to flood the streets of Washington, DC for this weekend's historic Equality March, a coast away in Los Angeles, the tone will be just as political albeit with a lot of star power.

In a statement released by #ResistMarch organizers this week, it was announced that Haim, Margaret Cho, RuPaul, Adam Lambert, Jussie Smollett, Cheyenne Jackson and America Ferrera would all be on hand to speak at the LA event, set for Sunday, June 11. They will be joined by high-profile politicians U.S. House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, U.S. Congressman Adam Schiff, U.S. Congresswoman Maxine Waters, U.S. Congressman Ted Lieu, California, Los Angeles Councilman Mitch O'Farrell, Los Angeles Councilman David Ryu, and West Hollywood Mayor John Heilman. A bevy of community activists that include Trans Activist Bamby Salcedo, AIDS Activist Phil Wilson, #ResistMarch Founder Brian Pendleton, HRC President Chad Griffin and Black Lives Matter's Dr. Melina Abdullah will also be on hand.

"Instead of a Pride Parade meant to celebrate ourpast progress, #ResistMarch will be a gathering to ensure our futures," read the statement.

Brian Pendleton, #ResistMarch Founder and Organizer, was inspired by the 1970's first LGBTQ+ Pride and the recent Women's March. The #ResistMarch will have speakers at the start of the march in Hollywood AND at the main stage rally in West Hollywood at the end of the march route. The mission is to march in unity with those who believe that America's strength is its diversity. Not just LGBTQ+ people but allAmericans and dreamers will be wrapped in the Rainbow Flag with unique, diverse, intersectional voices gathering together.

Set for Sunday, June 11, the public is instructed to gather at Hollywood & Highland at 8 a.m. The March Opening Ceremony & Remarks begin at 9 a.m. with the March stepping off at 9:30 a.m. March Main Stage Rally and Remarks begin approximately at 12 noon.

Although thousands are expected to attend, one small group will be taking a powder and not participate in the LA festivities this year. Log Cabin Republicans announced in April that will not attend #ResistMarch, an event they call a "short-sighted and politically fueled tirade [that] does little to celebrate and inform, nor does it demonstrate any kind of pride or diversity."

Pearls clutched.
