A Look at the Queer TV Series that Earned Emmy Noms

The 2018 Emmy Award nominations were announced Thursday - and they were pretty gay.
Sure, "Game of Thrones" picked up the most nods (22 in total), it shouldn't go without mentioning that a number of LGBTQ-themed TV shows also earned a good amount of recognition.
"The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story" earned an Outstanding Limited Series nomination with a number of its stars also picking up Emmy nods: Darren Criss as Andrew Cunanan for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series, Edgar Ramirez as Gianni Versace, Ricky Martin as Antonio D'Amico, and Finn Wittrock as Jeffrey Trail both for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series, and Penelope Cruz as Donatella Versace and Judith Light as Marilyn Miglin both for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series.
"RuPaul's Drag Race" and its companion series "Untucked" earned an astounding 12 Emmy nods, including Outstanding Reality Competition Series. RuPaul also picked up another nomination for Outstanding Host for a Reality Competition Program. On Top of that, Netflix's "Queer Eye" reboot earned a nod for Outstanding Structured Reality Program.
Elsewhere "The Handmaid's Tale," which features a number of queer characters, picked up 20 Emmy nods after winning Outstanding Drama Series last year. Among this nominees is last year's best actress winner, Elisabeth Moss, and supporting bids for Alexis Bledel, Ann Dowd, Yvonne Strahovski and Joseph Fiennes.
Out actress Lily Tomlin, Sarah Paulson, Cherry Jones and Evan Rachel Wood all earned recognition. Tomlin for her role in Netflix's comedy "Grace and Frankie," Paulson for the FX anthology series "American Horror Story: Cult," Cherry Jones for "The Handmaid's Tale," and Wood for "Westworld."
Tituss Burgess earned an Emmy nod for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt." Louie Anderson, who plays Christine Baskets on the FX comedy "Baskets," also picked up a nom for the same category, which he won two years ago.
