Get to Know This Trans Bodybuilder Looking to Make a Breakthrough

Ajay Holbrook is a 20-year-old bodybuilder looking to shake up the sport.

Holbrook, whose Instagram account will leave you incredibly thirsty, was featured in a new profile piece from Men's Health in which he talks about coming out as trans and opens up about his struggles with gender identity.

In the story, the athlete, who came out as trans when he was 13, explained that his mother Holly took him to hair appointments and made him wear dresses.

"She grabbed me, and she was like, 'What are you doing, you're a girl!' I looked at her like, 'What are you talking about?'" Holbrook told Men's Health, later adding that when he played video games, he'd make his characters ripped men with facial hair and tattoos.

Though growing up was difficult – especially in Texas – Holbrook began taking testosterone when he was senior in high school. When he was 18, he started to chronicle his fitness journey on social media and YouTube.

Now, Holbrook has nearly 51,000 followers on Instagram and hopes to compete in Mr. Olympia, the annual international bodybuilding competition held by the International Federation of Body Building & Fitness. The athlete is also modeling and posting some steamy shots on in his Instagram.

"This community is fragile, and I try my best to instill strength into them," he told the magazine. "And if being a man means [physical] strength to you, then that's what it should be."
