Chelsea Handler Urges This Republican to Come Out

READ TIME: 1 MIN.

Thursday was National Coming Out Day and comedian Chelsea Handler took to Twitter to urge one Republican, who she's aimed her ire at over the years, to come out.

Handler, who has come under fire for making gay jokes about Republicans in the past, called out Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) in her tweet.

"If you're wondering why Republicans took a sick day today, it's probably because it's #NationalComingOutDay. Looking at you @LindseyGrahamSC," she wrote, directly @'ing the lawmaker.

Though Graham never responded to Handler's tweet, the comedian caught heat earlier this year when she made a graphic joke about him, sparking many conservatives to be outraged.

Many were upset with Handler's latest Graham tweet.

Graham has long stood against LGBTQ equality, having defend the Defense of Marriage Act. Though rumors of being gay have plagued the South Carolina senator, he denied speculation in a 2010 New York Times article.

"Like maybe I'm having a clandestine affair with Ricky Martin," he said at the time. "I know it's really gonna upset a lot of gay men - I'm sure hundreds of 'em are gonna be jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge - but I ain't available. I ain't gay. Sorry."

For her part, Handler has been an LGBTQ rights supporter, having hosted the 20th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in 2009.

Rumors of his sexuality popped up again recently when Bill Maher called Graham gay on his HBO show "Real Time" last week.
