Nu-Disco hasn't had the breakthrough to mainstream that it at all deserves. The re-exploration, and sometimes re-examination, of 1970s grooves and tunes was often lumped in with most as just hip remixes that would incorporate the synth instrumentation and syncopation that was reminiscent of what became the landmark sound of an entire generation of the dance-devotees. By the 21st Century the innovation of Nu-Disco, would evolve into a genre exploited upon by Euro acts, eventually winning converts once Daft Punk put their spin on things.

Several contemporary musicians and artists would dive back into the deep end, especially given the musical connections to R&B/soul and funk. Emerging on the scene as the front woman for the Nu-Disco band Escort, Adeline charted a path that put the Brooklyn-based band on the map, which started out simply sampling classic sounds into their live sets. As a vocal act Adeline, certainly captures the spirit of disco; her vocals are easily on a par with the divas that made such an indelible impression on the dance floors.

The French-Caribbean chanteuse has teamed up with Morgan Wiley from Hercules & Love Affair, Midnight Magic fame, to co-produce a self-titled debut that elegantly moves with an essential musical flow and pace, and establishes Adeline – pronounced [ad-uh-leen] (that's also the album's title) as a genuine find! Moving between groovy, cooing and soothing beats, to more profound uptempo temptations, Adeline masterfully navigates the sexy nuances of R&B with the high exhilaration of disco, and even diving deep into the dark realms of the after hours.

You might find it nostalgically gratifying when Adeline does her best Grace Jones on the atmospheric "Magic," which is among the best tracks on the 14 song setlist. "Echo" eases the listener into the album's second act which raises the beats per minute and is reminiscent of some of the '90s sound let loose by the Brand New Heavies. It's followed by the lounge-sound of "Emeralds" which profoundly gives the audience its most purest exploration of Adeline's vocal depths, preparing you for the gorgeously bass-laden "Caf� Au Lait" – funkalicious for sure.

In a season that hasn't particularly delivered on resonating new ventures in music and the "big guns" have been fairly absent from the scene, Adeline's debut album is just what is needed; a transitory journey into Nu-Disco that sparks an interest in the genre and will undoubtedly draw some attention. By the time you pop onto track 8 and ride the "Hi Life" you'll be asking yourself where Adeline has been all your life. Add this to any playlist and you've instantly given the party permission. Remember...it's pronounced [ad-uh-leen].
