NYC Go-Go Dancer Matthew Camp, Others Talk About OnlyFans for the New York Times

The New York Times published an article this week about the subscription service OnlyFans, where fans pay models and social media stars a fee for their content – usually risqu� pics and videos that go against Instagram's policies. Among the models featured in the piece is New York City go-go dancer Matthew Camp.

In the article called "How OnlyFans Changed Sex Work Forever," the newspaper writes most OnlyFans users are male, "straight, gay and beyond." Speaking with the NYTimes, Camp, 34, says the service is "online go-go- dancing."

"If the four main quadrants of the gay approval matrix were daddy, twink, bear, and boy next door, he seemed to sit smack in the center, not falling neatly into any of those categories but appealing to the potential audiences for each," reporter Jacob Bernstein writes of Camp, who has been dancing in New York City for a decade for party promoter Susanne Bartsch.

On a good night, Camp can earn as much as $1,000, which also earned the attention of gay porn studio Lucas Entertainment who reportedly contacted the performer.

"Having sex for money is appealing," he told the NYTimes. He said $1,000 felt low for something that would be online forever and brand him as a porn star. He turned down the offer and instead went to Instagram where he has over 500,000 followers.

"About a year ago, as the club scene continued its slow death, he moved to Hudson, N.Y., and signed up for OnlyFans," Bernstein writes. "Weeks often went by without him posting a single picture or video. He didn't show a full penetrative sex clip for the first nine months, yet he still regularly took home more than $10,000 a month."

Camp explained that the blogging platform Tumblr, which now bans x-rated content, "was filled with the most extreme sexual experiences you could see."

"And I think a lot of people were turned off by that. It's not what they're looking for," he added. "They want more intimate experiences. They want a boyfriend experience. They want to fantasize about someone that they want to have sex with and not feel disgusted by it."

Last year, openly gay wrestler David Marshall made headlines for donating money he made from OnlyFans to a suicide prevention charity, which later refused to take his money.
