'Rocketman' Director Addresses Gay Sex Scene Removal Rumors

READ TIME: 1 MIN.

The director of the upcoming Elton John biopic "Rocketman" took to Twitter last week to address the rumors that a gay sex scene featuring actors Taron Egerton, who plays the iconic singer, and Richard Madden, who plays John's then-lover and manager John Reid, was nixed in order to get a PG-13 rating in the U.S.

"Seeing much speculation about 'ROCKETMAN'!! That's good! It's still unfinished so it's nothing but rumors," Dexter Fletcher tweeted. "It has and always will be the no holds barred, musical fantasy that Paramount and producers passionately support and believe in. See for yourself May 24."

Fletcher's tweet comes after a report from The Daily Mail claimed that, in order to get a PG-13 rating, producers at Paramount Pictures wanted Fletcher and producer Matthew Vaughn to cut a 40-second scene in which Egerton and Madden are in bed together with their butts exposed.

Nevertheless, sources told The Hollywood Reporter that "Rocketman" will indeed be rated R, and that the movie "will include an intimate love scene between" the two actors.
