Melissa Rivers is keeping her "fingers crossed" as doctors begin to take Joan Rivers out of a medically induced coma, the New York Daily News reported.

Rivers is said to hoping for a miracle to bring the 81-year-old comedy icon back. Rivers was rushed to a New York hospital last Thursday after she had stopped breathing and went into cardiac arrest during a standard medical procedure.

The News says the family is considering "legal action over the botched procedure that caused her collapse."

The process of taking Rivers out the coma began Sunday.

"'The waking-up process has begun and will take until Tuesday,' a source close to the family told the Daily News. "'There is real concern that the part of the brain that controls motor skills may have been compromised, leaving her as either a vegetable or in a wheelchair.'

"And that has the family considering a lawsuit.

"'Shock and upset is turning to anger, and they are looking for someone to blame,' said a source close to the family, hinting at action against Yorkville Endoscopy, where Rivers had a routine throat procedure on Thursday."
