Is Wedding Guru David Tutera a Sex Addict?
Wedding planning guru David Tutera is in some hot water this week. As People magazine reports, the host of WE TV's "My Fair Wedding," is battling allegations made by his soon-to-be ex-husband that he is a sex addict and frequents prostitutes.
Tutera is currently in the process of divorcing his husband, Ryan Jurica. They legally married in Vermont in 2003 and have a domestic partnership in California where they reside.
On April 19, Tutera filed divorce papers in Los Angeles Superior Court and citied "irreconcilable differences," People points out. The couple separated on Jan. 1, 2013 and Tutera is seeking full custody of the twins the couple is expecting via surrogate this July. The wedding planner does not want to pay spousal support and wants Jurica to pay for the legal fees related to their pending divorce and division of shared property.
But Jurica has a different (and more exciting) take on the split up. TMZ reports that Jurica filed his own papers in Connecticut, which claim that Tutera has a sex addiction and frequents prostitutes.
"After repeated attempts at marriage counseling and therapy, we have been unable to save our relationship due to [David's] addiction to sex," a section of the documents filed by Jurica reads. "[David] has engaged in a pattern of hiring sex escorts and prostitutes to support his addiction." The documents also state Jurica is also asking for full custody plus financial support.
Tutera isn't taking the allegations lightly, however. In a response to the Huffington Post, he said, "The allegations against me are baseless and untrue and I will fight vigorously to defend my reputation in the court of law as well as the court of public opinion. I believe them to be fabrications of a desperate individual in order to gain a legal advantage in our separation. I am saddened by these developments; I am angered by the lies; and I am committed to moving beyond this painful moment to focus on my professional commitments and the upcoming birth of my children."
Tutera, the author of seven books, has hosted "My Fair Wedding" since it began in 2008. He's planned a number of celebrity weddings, including ceremonies for Star Jones and Shannen Dorhety. He's also created events for Jennifer Lopez, Elton John, the Rolling Stones, Al Gore and Tommy Hilfiger.
