Some Wanted Would Have ’a Dabble’ With a Man
Seeds of gay rumors were planted on Wednesday when Jay McGuiness of the hunky UK boy band The Wanted created some speculations on the sexuality of his fellow bandmates during an interview on an Australian radio station. When the hosts of "The Kyle and Jackie O Show" asked The Wanted which one of them is gay, McGuiness chimed in with "I think most of us would probably have a dabble."
"Speak for yourself," bandmate Tom Parker said.
Later in the interview, host Kyle Sandilands brought up former N*Sync member, Lance Bass, who recently commented on the personal lives of One Direction, another well-known British boy band, the Mirror points out.
"Statistically speaking, one probably is [gay]," Bass said on his daily Sirius OutQ radio show "Dirty Pop With Lance Bass," regarding One Direction. "The market is 100 percent young women, and they fantasize about these [One Direction] guys. Then you have the record labels and everyone kind of grooming you to make sure that you don't even mention that you have a girlfriend." He added, "So screw the fact that you're going to come out as being gay -- it ruins their whole business plan."
If the old adage "it takes one to know one is true, Bass might be onto something. In 2006, Bass made international headlines after he revealed that he is gay in a cover story for People magazine. More recently, Bass gave some advice to basketball vet Jason Collins, who made history when he became the first male professional major athlete to come out.
