Matt Bomer Reveals Marriage to Longtime Partner
Though Matt Bomer came out to the public just two years ago, the actor announced in this month issue of Details magazine (via US Weekly) that he married his partner Simon Halls three years ago.
The "Magic Mike" star discussed his role in Ryan Murphy's HBO movie adaptation of "The Normal Heart," where he plays a gay man dying of AIDS in the '80s, and talks about playwright Larry Kramer's influence with the LGBT rights movement.
"I wouldn't have a lot of the rights I have today if it wasn't for people like Larry," Bomer told Details.
Bomer, who has 6-year-old twin sons and an 8-year-old son with Halls, tied the knot in Hollywood in 2011.
The actor said he first read "The Normal Heart" in high school and when he heard about the HBO movie adaptation, he wanted to be involved.
"At [the time when I read it], I was clueless and obviously in a different place in relation to my sexuality," Bomer, who came out in 2012, said. "I was in romantic relationships with girls-whatever that means at 14. And it completely rocked my world...It's just an amazing call to arms."
Bomer had to lose 40 pounds for the role and got some advice from Matthew McConaughey, who lost 50 pounds for his role in "Dallas Buyers Club."
"He called me and walked me through what he did," Bomer said. "It was very generous, but I took a slightly different path."
