Lake Placid

If you've never seen the late '90s monster movie "Lake Placid," now's your chance to own it on Blu-ray for the first time. With a fabulous high-definition transfer and a ton of special features to boot, the Shout Factory Blu-ray blows away the previously-released DVD.

David E. Kelley penned the witty and suspenseful script of a prehistoric crocodile attacking the residents of Lake Placid. Because of Kelley's experience with TV sitcoms and dramas, the dialogue is a howl and features Betty White in one of her first potty-mouthed roles, in a performance that has now become her trademark.

"Lake Placid" comes under the now two-year-old Scream Factory trademark and it wouldn't come recommended without its slew of bonus material. The DVD release only included the theatrical trailer, TV spots, and a cast/crew bio. These three features compliment the "Lake Placid" Blu-ray as well. But a completely new thirty minute "The Making of Lake Placid" makes the Blu-ray hard to resist. Bill Pullman and director Steve Miner sit down for brand new interviews, and the special effects team describes the grueling shoot with the mechanical and animated crocodile.

Bridget Fonda, Oliver Platt, and Betty White sadly aren't in the latest making-of feature, yet appear in the vintage promotional short shot at the time of the release of "Lake Placid." The one pointless featurette is stock footage of cast and crew testing the mechanical crocodile in the water... it starts out intriguing, and becomes utterly redundant.

Betty White's name should also be displayed prominently on the Blu-ray cover but is nowhere to be found.
