Jackass Presents Bad Grandpa.5
If you can't get enough of Johnny Knoxville and his outrageous shenanigans, "Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa.5" will be right up your alley. This is similar to other previous "Jackass" films, where so much unused footage is shot that a direct-to-Blu-ray release becomes inevitable. I found much of the material here to be funnier than "Bad Grandpa" itself.
Billed as a movie, "Bad Grandpa.5" strings together deleted scenes, on-set footage, and behind-the-scenes to flesh out a documentary. The character of Irving Zisman (Knoxville) was created way back in 2001, and here you can see how the 86-year old naughty man gets created in grueling makeup sessions. You can see how little patience Knoxville has while sitting in the makeup chair, yet "Bad Grandpa" was nominated for an Academy Award in the best makeup category.
Most of the unused footage shows Irving getting into altercations with various people. He pisses off a group of golf players on a golf course and almost gets pummeled by a man who gives Irving a cigarette, only to have Irving crush it on the ground. The penguin-destroying sequence gets extended as well.
If the 86-minute documentary isn't enough, there are four bonus features on the Blu-ray to enjoy. Among them, a round table interview with cast and crew is intriguing and "Casting Billy" will invoke a chuckle or too. But did we really need to see more deleted scenes as a special feature? It seems copious, but luckily some frenzied outtakes make up for it.
