Glee - The Music - Celebrating 100 Episodes
For the 100th episode of the hit television musical "Glee" - the one that guarantees the show's success well into the next two decades in syndication - the ensemble is joined by the visiting graduates who have moved past their days in the chorus room...or have they? The set list featured on the album is a celebration that takes the listener back to some of the show's most memorable performances remixed!
Guest starring favorites Broadway's Kristin Chenoweth and Hollywood honey Gwyneth Paltrow join the McKinley School alumni on such contemporary hits as P!nk's anthem "Raise Your Glass" which is wonderfully enthused by Chenoweth's uniquely powerful range. Paltrow, devoted to post-modern pop hits, gives her heartwarming rendition of Pharrell's hit "Happy." It's impossible to not realize the sheer joy of the harmony evident on this arrangement, which is impressively lofted by Gwyneth's sweet vocals.
The cast of "Glee" aren't to be remiss on this special release which features a soaring rework of "Defying Gravity" delivered as a trio by the show's favorites. Working to woo back a "greatest love"? You can do it this version of "Valerie" which is sung as a sweetly uptempo valentine - one of the album's highlights. Of the thirteen tracks appearing on "Glee: The Music - Celebrating 100 Episodes" there appear a handful of standouts, but unless your a devoted "Gleek," these arrangements blend into the background.
Inspired versions of "Just Give Me a Reason" only have a resonance when played in the context of the show, otherwise just stick to P!nk's unbridled original and her live concert performance - which is truly magnificent. Show fans will be thrilled with revisited tracks like "Toxic" which is seductively spun into a decadent dance off, and the closing track which became the show's anthem "Don't Stop Believin'" is a fitting end to celebrate the 100 episodes of a little show that became a phenomenon!
