It's not a surprise that as EDM is moving into the pole position of the mainstream pop music charts, and House music reasserts its throne on the dance floor, that electro synth-pop is steadily gaining a momentum that is exciting and enlightening. Those words are the best to describe the debut release from RAC. On "Strangers," the "house" known more fundamentally as Remix Artist Collection have assemble an anthology engaging tracks with a who's who of today's more interesting performers.
Originally released in two parts, "Strangers" is a cohesive narrative of tracks that beg the listener to interact. The opening track "Let Go" performed by Kele & MNDR is a beautifully stylized initiate reminiscent of late 80's Euro pop. The slow groove easily inducts the unprepared for the elevated rhythms and programming brought on by RAC's lead conspirator André Allen Anjos. ?Until recently, Anios was on the forefront of remixing hit songs for Kings of Leon and Tokyo Police Club, the latter of which join the assembled on the lofty and moody track "Tourist." Tegan and Sara also pop up on the catchy "Hard To Hold," which has perhaps the best instrumental and vocal arrangement on the album, and embraces the contemporary and retro marriage these artists all hold dearly onto.
Making an impressionable appearance on the compilation is Penguin Prison with the Saturday night anthem "Hollywood," which is full of California dreaming. All the tracks on RAC's album move forward with a steady progression; nothing is set to EDM fast-forward - and you actually get to appreciate the interlace of organic instrumentation, soaring vocals, amid the rising tempo of electronic beeps and blips.
Promising to propel the listener upward on a relentlessly sunny trajectory, not a note is wasted or lost in its emotion. Though the collection may come off as an eclectic melange of base beats and "live set" lyrics, the artists will soon become your best friends - each track reveals more and more of a musical journey that guarantees that at its end no one emerges alone - or a stranger.
"Strangers" is available as a digital download on most music store platforms for $13.99 and is released on Interscope Records.
