The Andrews Sisters - Greatest Hits In Stereo

Releasing an album in "stereo" just doesn't have the mystique as a selling point that it once did. Yet, in 1962 when LPs were distributed in both "mono" and "stereo," it was a step-up in your listening pleasure. Hence, when Dot Records released "The Andrews Sisters Greatest Hits" in 1962, it was an opportunity to hear their music in full stereo effect. Initially, a second release "Great Golden Hits" was a follow-up album to the greatest hits collection and added the popular beats of the day into the trio's harmonies, in what could be described as "Do the Twist with The Andrews Sisters."

Sepia Records pays tribute to the amazingly gifted vocalists Patty, Maxene and LaVerne Andrews with "Greatest Hits in Stereo/Great Golden Hits" a re-release of these two albums together for the first time on CD. The success of these three singing sisters is almost unparalleled. The Andrews Sisters have sold roughly over 80 million records... and still counting. During World War II and as early as 1937, songs such as "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy," "Bei Mir Bist Du Schon," or "Don't Fence Me In" were musical anthems familiar to every American and even the international public during wartime. There is nothing quite like The Andrews Sisters in sass and style... though The Puppini Sisters have continued the art of The Andrews Sisters' harmonies with entertaining results.

The last surviving Andrews sister, Patty, died recently at age 94 in January of this year. This sad marker in time can also be a reason to familiarize, re-acquaint or even celebrate their artistry. There is a lot to be discovered in the pep, spirit and true vocal skills of The Andrews Sisters. Truly, these three ladies were "one-of-a-kind" and their voices together continue to shine brilliantly to this day.
