Total Faith - Faith Prince Live at the Colony

"A person, can develop a bad, bad cold!" These lyrics from "Adelaide's Lament," from "Guys and Dolls" were already known to fans of the Broadway stage in 1992, but they became legendary when Faith Prince personified the forever fianceƩ, Adelaide, in the revival of the Frank Loesser standard. The role landed Prince the Tony Award for "Best Actress in a Musical," and placed her firmly in the Leading Lady category, and we've been enjoying her brassy voice and welcoming smile ever since.

Now with a comfortable list of both Broadway and television roles under her belt, Prince once again gives us her stage favorites, recorded in front of a cabaret audience. "Total Faith: Live from the Royal Room at The Colony," is Prince's first solo release in thirteen years, and we've missed her. A musical smorgasbord of Broadway favorites, Prince welcomes us into her world with a collection of low-key anecdotes bridging her signature Merman-esque delivery in this one-hour set.

She begins her set, recorded at the Royal Room at The Colony in Palm Beach in 2010, with a medley of standards including all three of her songs from "Guys and Dolls": "Take Back Your Mink," "Bushel and a Peck," and her signature, "Adelaide's Lament." Among her engaging anecdotes include her talking of her missing the opportunity to originate the role of Audrey in "Little Shop of Horrors," and then proceeding to give us a heartfelt medley of "Suddenly Seymour" and "Somewhere That's Green." She mixes in a couple of Sondheim songs, including "Not While I'm Around" (as a dedication to her son), and the diva showstopper, "The Ladies Who Lunch," unequivocably convincing us that the song was written for her. Hopefully, it won't be another thirteen years until we receive a follow up to this recording!
