Hell on Wheels - The Complete Third Season
In addition to advertising executives in the turbulent 1960s and human survivors making their way through the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse, AMC offers viewers a different take on the Western with "Hell on Wheels," an ambitious (if soapy) show about the construction of the transcontinental railroad that turned, in its first two seasons, around its main character's quest for revenge.
That all changes in "Hell on Wheels: The Complete Third Season," which comprises all ten episodes of Season Three and arrives in plenty of time for the show's August 2 Season Four premiere.
Cullen (Anson Mount) focuses on the needs of the railroad workers, who dwell in the itinerant town Hell on Wheels, an encampment that travels along with the work crews as they make their way westward. And none too soon: Storms, power plays, Cheyenne Indians, a missing baby, the psychopath known as "The Swede" (Christopher Heyerdahl) and... er... Mormons all play into the season's dramatic arcs, as does the re-emergence of Cullen's sometime nemesis, Durant (Colm Meaney).
The season set is rounded out with a standard complement of extras, including a re-cap of Season Two, a preview of Season Three, "Inside the Episode" featurettes for each episode, a tour of Elam's (rap star Common) tent (which also serves as a small essay about his role as the town's chief of police), and a featurette about Charlie Daniels doing the show the huge favor of writing an original song.
