Jason Stuart on Hitting the Funny Bone
Enjoy some side-splitting comedy with gay-fave Jason Stuart, who has been "sharing his candy" all over the country since coming out in 1993.
Why a career in comedy?
Because I could not get arrested as an actor! Stand up has become my day job, a job I love! It’s like quick fast sex-sometimes it’s great-sometimes I wonder, "why did I say/do that?"
Were you always funny?
Yes, it was a protection as a gay kid from being bullied by straight boys, growing up Beverly Hills-adjacent.
Who have been your influences or mentors?
Lucille Ball, Don Rickles, Joan Rivers, Charles Pierce, Lily Tomlin, Richard Belzer, Richard Lewis and so many more gay men and women who walked before me. I feel like, as a gay man, I walk on the shoulders of the LGBT artists who came before me. That’s why I am here and I do not forget it, I don’t take it lightly.
Describe what kind of comic you are.
The funny kind! I love to take to the audience and create a show just for them.
