Jason Stuart on Hitting the Funny Bone
Enjoy some side-splitting comedy with gay-fave Jason Stuart, who has been "sharing his candy" all over the country since coming out in 1993.
Why a career in comedy?
Because I could not get arrested as an actor! Stand up has become my day job, a job I love! It's like quick fast sex-sometimes it's great-sometimes I wonder, "why did I say/do that?"
Were you always funny?
Yes, it was a protection as a gay kid from being bullied by straight boys, growing up Beverly Hills-adjacent.
Who have been your influences or mentors?
Lucille Ball, Don Rickles, Joan Rivers, Charles Pierce, Lily Tomlin, Richard Belzer, Richard Lewis and so many more gay men and women who walked before me. I feel like, as a gay man, I walk on the shoulders of the LGBT artists who came before me. That's why I am here and I do not forget it, I don't take it lightly.
Describe what kind of comic you are.
The funny kind! I love to take to the audience and create a show just for them.
Best piece of advice you've ever gotten?
Breathe and listen. Stay in the moment and know that it will all be all over tomorrow.
Favorite one-liner joke?
"I'm the daddy and I have candy." Which is true and it's the name of my tour.
Who has been the inspiration of some of your latest material?
Always my mother and the shitty men I date! Mitt Romney was, but now I guess it's just all Republicans!
If you had a sexual "to-do" list, who would be on top of the list?
Well first would be Ricky Martin, than back home to Esai Morales. Then back to real life and a guy who has a car but does not live in it.
