The Glass Menagerie Star Cherry Jones to Share Career Secrets
Lesbian powerhouse actress Cherry Jones will discuss her long and illustrious career in the theater on Oct. 21 as part of The Drama League's successful "Up Close: A Conversation With..." series. The guest moderator for the evening's event is Jones' "The Glass Menagerie" co-star Celia Keenan-Bolger.
"We are all so on fire with 'The Glass Menagerie,' Tennessee, and this production that Celia and I cannot have enough opportunities to talk about it," Jones told EDGE. "But of course, to discuss it with fellow artists and great lovers of the theatre, thanks to The Drama League will be a particular pleasure for us and we hope all who show up that night."
One of the living legends of American theatre, Emmy and Tony winner Jones will join audiences at the Drama League Theater Center to discuss her illustrious career, including her unforgettable roles in "Doubt," "The Heiress," "24," "Mrs. Warren's Profession" and as Amanda Wingfield in the current Broadway revival of "The Glass Menagerie."
The series has already profiled musical theater star Laura Benanti in conversation with fellow Broadway star Susan Blackwell, and Tony Danza, with his "Honeymoon in Vegas" co-star Rob McClure.
"Having opened The Drama League Theater Center in May, we're excited to begin our first full season of event programming in our new home," shared Gabriel Shanks, Drama League Executive Director. "It's truly remarkable to be welcoming old friends like Cherry, Laura, Peter and Lillias as the first guests in our new series."
The series will include Tony Award winners Jones, Benanti and Judy Kaye, plus Danza, Peter Filichia and David Friedman. Andrew McArdle, Lillias White and Debbie Gravitte joined host Eileen Bluestone Sherman on Oct. 7 for the special event, "Perfect Picture: The Album Pre-Release Concert." Celebrating the upcoming cast recording, featuring the voices of a dozen of Broadway's most celebrated stars, was a natural fit for the Drama League.
And for those interested in the story behind Disney, Nov. 11 will feature David Friedman, orchestra conductor for classic films like "Aladdin," Beauty & The Beast" and "Pocahontas" for "Conducting Disney: A Conversation with David Friedman." He will discuss his collaboration with Kathie Lee Gifford on "Scandalous" and his upcoming shows "Chasing Nicolette" and "Front Page Girl."
"Up Close: A Conversation With Cherry Jones" will be held at 7 p.m. on Oct. 21 at the Drama League Theater, For tickets or information, call 212-244-9494 or visit www.dramaleague.org
