MM2 at The Bata Shoe Museum for World Pride
How can dance bring forward and deepen the way we experience a place? An alternative to traditional performance, Philadelphia-based MM2 Modern Dance Company’s improvisation and site specific choreography integrates dance and place, communities and time-based art.
As part of their Toronto Tour, MM2 Dance will be performing improvisational dance, "Designed To Move You" at the Bata Shoe Museum, 327 Bloor Street West, Toronto on Saturday, June 21, 2014 between 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. The performance is free with museum admission.
This special performance designed for all ages is in support of World Pride. Company founder Steven Weisz reflects, "At our core, as artists and dancers, is a belief that it is both our diversity and individuality that makes for a more humane and better world, further enriched by the arts. Dance is a shared experience, through which we can better understand our common humanity by appreciating and exploring the different inflections of this art form. It is our hope that audiences in Toronto will come out and celebrate with us!"
Bare-foot modern dancers might seem like a stark contrast to a museum full of incredible shoes, but just as every shoe tells a story, so does every movement a dancer makes. Weisz hopes that audiences will have a chance to create "their own story with their imagination," while inspired by his dancers and the variety of surrounding footwear.
