Is Kylie Minogue Readying a New Album?
It's the start of a new year, which means the speculations are endless when it comes to which musicians will release new albums.
According to recent reports, ethereal pop star Kylie Minogue has shown some activity, leading some to believe that she may be gearing up to put out her twelfth studio album very soon.
The singer, who recently signed to Jay Z's Roc Nation's management division, discussed her upcoming LP with French magazine Le Figaro.
"I have a curious nature," Minogue, 45, said (via Pop Justice). "I multiplied experiments to try several things, while remaining faithful to my DNA, which could define myself as a singer of 'dance pop moving and joyful.'"
The pop star went on to say that she has the first single chosen and that the people who have heard it said it "was undoubtedly a 'Kylie song.'"
"Let's say it is a mix between that part avant-garde 'Slow' or, at least, really different from the pop then this classic side found in the 'Love At First Sight' and its modern, contemporary, '[Can't] Get You Out of My Head," she added. "We pray for a new 'Can't Get'! ... Yes, I think it is really a 'Kylie song' whatever the definition given to it. This song fits this range is mine. Because I am a performer, I do not like being locked into a single job."
Pop Justice notes that Pharrell and singer-songwriter Sia have worked on the untitled album. The British newspaper the Guardian reports that producer d'jour Ariel Rechtshaid, who has worked with Usher, Justin Bieber, Vampire Weekend, Cass McCombs, Charli XCX, Sky Ferreira, Haim and others, is linked to Minogue's newest effort.
According to a different Pop Justice article, Black Eye Peas front man, producer and living URL will.i.am, has worked on two of the pop star's tracks - though it has not been confirmed. Additionally, it was reported back in June that rapper and stripper Brooke Candy would be featured on the lead single.
Minogue did confirm, however, that a photo that recently surfaced of her walking down a street is a still from the set of the video for her new single, which is rumored to be titled "Into the Blue."
"#Lovers yes it's true I was on set shooting the video for my first single!!!" the singer wrote on Instagram Monday.
It's likely the single will drop soon, as Minogue was recently hired as a coach for season three of "The Voice UK" (along with will.i.am) and for her native Australia's edition of the singing reality competition. Both series will air in 2014 -- a perfect tie-in for a new song/album.
Minogue's upcoming project follows 2010's lovely "Aphrodite," which peaked at No. 2 on America's Billboard's 200 chart.
In 2012 she released the one-off single "Timebomb" and "Flower," which was intended to appear on "Aphrodite." In June 2013 she shared "Skirt," a promo buzz single for her twelfth studio album. The track was co-written by R&B producer/artist The-Dream, and showed a rougher and more electronic (dubstep and house) approach to Minogue's otherwise airy tunes.
Minogue has had a large LGBT following and is considered a gay icon. She's commented on her following, saying her gay audience has "adopted" her and is thankful for their faithfulness.
