The Dalai Lama Approves of Same-Sex Marriage
The Dalai Lama announced his support for gay marriage during an interview with Larry King last month, the Huffington Post reports.
In the past, the Dalai Lama has pointed to Buddhist texts that prohibit same-sex relationships but his views on the issue have apparently changed - as HuffPo notes, this is the Dalai Lama's "clearest affirmation of same-sex marriage to date."
King and the Buddhist leader talked about human rights violations, specifically the LGBT community in Russia. King then asked, "What about same-sex marriage?"
"That's up to the country's law."
King then asked, "What do you feel personally about it?"
"It's OK! I think it's individuals' business," the Dalai Lama said before letting out a chuckle. "If two people, a couple, really feel that way, it's more practical, more satisfaction, and both sides fully agree, then OK!"
Earlier in the interview, the Dalai Lama said people to follow their personal religious beliefs to avoid "sexual misconduct."
The full interview airs March 10 but you can watch the Dalai Lama's comments on gay marriage below:
