NSFW: Denver Fox Affiliate Inadvertently Airs Penis Selfie
What do a helicopter crash, Seattle's Space Needle, Johnny Depp and rather large penis selfie have in common? Give up? They all appeared inadvertently in a morning news segment on Denver Fox affiliate KDVR Tuesday.
As part of news coverage of a helicopter crash in Seattle, Denver Fox affiliate KDVR's morning news program showed a series of photos taken and posted on Twitter. Anchorman Kirck Yuhnke identified the first shot as smoke coming from the crash site with Seattle's iconic Space Needle in the background. Following the crash photo, a series of unrelated images popped up including Johnny Depp as "Edward Scissorhands", an unidentified food photo and finally a large penis selfie.
As Yuhnke heroically attempted not to draw attention to the inadvertent porno-gaff, the others sitting with him, especially meteorologist Jennifer Broome winced, covering their mouths in shock.
The segment quickly went viral on social media and even earned some airtime on television shows Wednesday.
The Fox Affiliate apologized on their Facebook page saying:
"While reporting breaking news about the crash of the KOMO-TV helicopter in Seattle, Fox 31 Denver accidentally broadcast an offensive photo while scrolling live through a Twitter feed of pictures from the crash scene.
"The photo was mistakenly broadcast by our control room. It did not come from the tablet many viewers saw being used by one of our anchors.
"We apologize for the inadvertent broadcast of the image and we are taking immediate steps to prevent such an accident from happening again."
Blogger Jeanne Jackle caught up with Jennifer Broome whose reaction during the segment has become a "fan favorite" of the viral video to discuss the incident. "It was totally an accident. Things happen when you're on live TV," Broome said, adding no one was fired at KDVR as a result but "new procedures" have been implemented.
"You've got to take it in stride, you have to laugh at yourself,"
