The Terminator (Remastered)
Those who shelled out for the first Blu-ray edition of "The Terminator" were no doubt uninspired; the disc looked as if the DVD master was merely duplicated to a Blu-ray title. James Cameron’s sci-fi masterpiece, however, finally receives a well-executed digital transfer in this new release. Picture quality is first-rate - the original film grain can be witnessed - and audio is crisp and clear (although purists may be distressed to know that this transfer retains the 5:1 remastering, which, of course, wasn’t the original mono track; for everyone else, it’s a great upgrade.)
Special features are no different from the 2006 Blu-ray release; featurettes, deleted scenes and the fun(ny) roundtable with Cameron and star Arnold Schwarzenegger. That’s interesting, since an hour long documentary, trailers, and other features are out there. Fair warning as a result: an "Ultimate" editing is bound to arrive at some point. "I’ll be back," indeed.
But if you’ve not seen the film in a while, and your last outing was DVD or (gasp!) videotape, scoop up this master; you can’t go wrong.
