"Identity Thief" is a comic powerhouse and has cemented Melissa McCarthy as a comedy superstar. Combined with professional "straight man" Justin Bateman the film is not only entertaining but also a future Hollywood comedy classic. The DVD/Blu-ray/Digital Copy not only includes multiple copies of the film but also the unrated version.
Sandy Patterson (Justin Bateman) runs into trouble when his identity is stolen and his credit, criminal record and future at his job are threatened. He sets out to catch the criminal, Diana (Melissa McCarthy). As they race cross-country, they are pursued by criminals, bail bondsmen, horny cowboys and comedy hi-jinks.
The Blu-ray version of the film includes some great exclusives. There is an unrated version of the film that includes some extra footage that throws off the pacing of the film. The disc also includes alternate takes for many of McCarthy's improvised lines. This is superior to the gag reel, which is lackluster and pretty short. The alternate takes offer some additional funny lines and moments in the film. They are the best alternative to deleted scenes in comedies.
"The Making of Identity Thief" offers a lot of interesting insight into the film. For example, originally, Melissa McCarthy's role was originally to be played by a man. Instead, Bateman saw "Bridesmaids" and offered her the role. "Scene Stealing: Capturing the Humor of Identity Thief" shows the fun moments of the actors improvising and interacting with each other to make their jokes funnier.
"The Skiptracer's Van Tour" features Robert Patrick giving a tour of his van while in character. Ironically, the HD quality of the interview just makes it feel ridiculous to see Robert Patrick pretending to be his character outside the context of the film.
"Identity Thief" is a must-have comedy. It will soon be a comedy classic. Not only is the film entertaining but the cast also seems to be a great group in the various bonus features included in the set.
