The gorgeous follow up to "Baraka," director Ron Fricke’s "Samsara" is a visual and aural feast of images that is hard to put into words. Shot over five years in 25 countries, the film is a tone poem on birth, life, and death that comes from a Sanskrit word that means "continuous flow." It shows us things we might never otherwise see, from ancient rituals to amazing holy structures, to nature’s very own art gallery. The movie delves into industrialized technology ranging from sex dolls to how meat is "made" and distributed (It’s mildly disturbing), but all in all, it’s a gorgeously realized meditation on life that will thrill you with jaw-dropping beauty.
The Blu-ray comes in Ultra-High Definition so you are sure to get the most stunning picture clarity around and trust me, it’s mind-blowing. Never have the Himalayas or the Yosemite Valley looked so spectacular. If you’re worried you might be bored with a wordless essay of images and no plot, I can assure you, you won’t be able to take your eyes from the screen.
Special Features include 6 short featurettes on the making of the film covering the Filmmakers, Music, Editing, Technology, and more. They certainly add to the understanding of how the film was created and put together. The film alone is worth the purchase price, but the featurettes add to the whole experience.
