How To Make It In America - The Complete Second Season
"How to make it in America: Season 2" continues the journey of two industrious under thirties working their way up and up and up in the Manhattan fashion milieu. Ben Epstein (Brian Greenberg) and his amigo Cam Calderon (Victor Rasuk) are willing to do pretty much anything, or everything, to find a rivulet that could lead to great success. The show pushes this idea perhaps to an impossible outcome of what could possibly happen next; similar to what happened to "Friends" eventually.
The bourn of friends Domingo (Scott Mescudi) and Rene (Luis Guzman) add to the playing field of taking what you have and making something out of it as the characters battle it out with the gristly city. With bombshells like Shannyn Sossamon making an appearance again and the season favorite "friend-who-is-a-girl" Rachel (Lake Bell), the show perspires with just the right amount. The themes of success, self-acceptance and overcoming encumbrance rings true throughout the second season, as it did the first, as the cast find themselves in between rags and pavements.
Season 2 is filled with more sex, more nudity, more beautiful women, and of course boys, and more chances of disaster that keeps viewers interested. The producers speak about a show that is constantly after the heartbeat of the city, and that the show gets to showcase in an authentic way.
Prolific as the new American dream becomes a larger discussion in an election year and with the "Great Gatsby" taking a break from New York as it skips to Australia with Baz Luhrmann. And as the film "Call for a good time" shows so beautifully New Yorkers are hustling and that is what actually matters.
