A hit film and bestselling novel get a 21st century update in this sci-fi miniseries. Medical student Susan Wheeler (Lauren Ambrose, TV’s "Six Feet Under") goes amateur detective when several routine surgeries end up with each patient in an unexplained coma. Her investigations make her quite unpopular with hospital administration, but luckily her grandfather was a surgeon at the same hospital, and she’s got some allies on the staff. Her first is a young surgeon (Steven Pasquale, TV’s "Rescue Me") and second is the Chief of Staff (two time Academy Award nominee James Woods). Finding out that each of these patients are being shipped out to a facility called The Jefferson Institute, Susan digs herself deeper into the mystery, evading security guards, a crazed mugger, a jealous lover and hospital politics, to name a few. Fans of the 1978 film of the same name will notice some added plot lines and a much faster paced story, despite the longer running time of a miniseries. This telefilm also features Academy Award winners Geena Davis, Ellen Burstyn and Richard Dreyfus. The DVD running time is approximately 160 minutes, the film is presented in 1.78:1 Anamorphic Widescreen with a 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtrack. Sadly lacking are any Special Features at all, only a few coming attractions. It must be noted that two of the executive producers of the film are "Alien" (1979) and "Prometheus" (2012) director Ridley Scott, and his late brother, director Tony Scott. From Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.
