GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum is one of the most conservative candidates when it comes to social issues, such as LGBT rights, and a new Washington Post/ABC News poll says that the former senator of Pennsylvania is now the most trusted candidate with same-sex marriage, reported.

Thirty-one percent of the people polled said that they trust Santorum with social issues, such as gay marriage and abortion. Santorum beat out Mitt Romney who came in second place with 22 percent. Newt Gingrich came in third with 15 percent and Ron Paul placed last with 13 percent. Six percent of the people surveyed said they did not trust any candidate on social issues.

In December, a poll that asked the same question showed that Republican voters trusted Romney the most with gay marriage as he received 25 percent of the vote. Santorum placed dead last in that poll with just 4 percent. Gingrich came in second with 15 percent and Paul followed with 12 percent.

Santorum has been extremely vocal about his views on the LGBT community and same-sex marriage. He has said more than once that if he becomes the next president he will "unmarry" all same-sex couples and ban gay marriage.

"We can't have 50 different marriage laws in this country," the politician said. "You have to have one marriage law."

In January, Santorum was interviewed by CNN's Piers Morgan and told the reporter that he would ban gay marriage across the country.

"Marriage is an institution that existed before governments existed," he said. "It's something that reflects nature and reflects God and God's will for us. I think it's important to understand that you respect everyone and you respect their rights to be able to live their life in the way that they want to live it."

Although Romney does not support marriage equality, he will not attempt to nullify current same-sex marriages.

Then make one marriage law. Do away with the separation of individuals from society while proving that morality is indeed present.

This is is garbage. It comes from the self-hating gays at GOPride, take it with a grain of salt. We need to be careful with groups like these that "appear" to be on our side for equality and rights; they’re not. They defend the most homophobic and disgusting remarks against the LGBT community. There are enemies amongst us, be aware.

I used to comment frequently on Rick Santorum articles; Ricks current success is so depressing, its like America is brain dead. I am just waiting for the storm to pass, and a dangerous one it is indeed. I will never forget what he has said to dehumanize and marginslize gays, and I pray every day he gets hit by lightening.

The article is a bit misleading. The poll doesn’t say that gays trust him. The question is asked of ’leaned Republicans’ "Regardless of who you may support, which of the Republican candidates do you trust most to handle Social issues, such as abortion and gay marriage?" Mitt Romney 22 Rick Santorum 31 What it says to me is that Santorum’s view on stuff like gay marriage matches the people in the Repub party. Romney’s shown to be wishy washy and moderate on stuff like this. The poll data also says again and again that the Repubs polled don’t think Santorum can win opposite Obama. That’s the important part. Here’s the data:

I am so surprised that a person that is so in tuned with What God wants for us is so calm and collected. How does he know what God wants for us? I have to admist that I think what God wants for me os to be Out and Proud Gay Man -- he created me that way. I am really tired of these social conservative religious fanatics stating they know what God wants. He created us to be who we are, otherwise we would all be the same or be a tree!

You are dreaming if you thing Santorum has anything in mind but one man one woman. Don’t be idiotic. Rick thinks we are abominations and that women are chattel.

He’s full of shit and garbage who uses Gods words against us all. Isn’t the fundamental core of religion Utopia? According to him, Utopia is a place in what he accepts to BE Utopia. I hope he drops out. I carry remorse.
