Satanic Group Leader: I Will Turn Phelps Gay When He Dies
The news that the founder of the Westboro Baptist Church is on his deathbed has sparked an international conversation. But while some debate whether or not Fred Phelps' funeral should be picketed, the leader of a satanic group says he will turn the former WBC member gay once he dies.
VICE media talked with the spokesperson for the New York-based Satanic Temple this week to get his views about Phelps' imminent death.
He told VICE that he will perform the same ceremony over Phelps' grave, once he dies.
"The Satanic Temple exercised its own right to offensive Free Speech in our performance of the Pink Mass at Fred Phelps's mother's grave this past summer. After having two same-sex couples (one male, one female) engage in homoerotic activity at the grave site, we declared Fred Phelps's mother a post-mortem homosexual conversion. At the time, I predicted that Fred hadn't too much longer till he would pass, and I stated -- in a direct tweet to the WBC -- that I would be presiding over Fred's own Pink Mass before too long. As I have made a promise to a dying man, I fully intend to do my very best to see it through, and the pomp and circumstance of this Pink Mass will surely far, far exceed that of the original event in Meridian, Mississippi.
The Huffington Post reports that Lucien Greaves made headlines last year for performing a "Pink Mass" over the grave of Phelps' mother, Catherine Johnston." Greaves claims the ritual will make Johnston gay in the afterlife.
In January, Greaves' group made headlines when it revealed the design for a 7-foot-tall statue of Satan that would replace a monument of the Ten Commandments at the Oklahoma state Capitol.
Over the weekend, Phelps' son took to Facebook and revealed that his father, who once headed the "God Hate Fags" church, is on his deathbed and is dying in a Topeka hospice. In the same post, he also said his father was excommunicated from the WBC last year, but did not clarify why.
