Gays and lesbians from Maine to Hawaii celebrated the end of the military's ban on openly gay and lesbian servicemembers as the repeal of the Clinton-era law became official.

Revelers who gathered at Town in Washington, D.C., erupted in cheers and applause at the moment the repeal of 'don't ask, don't tell' became official on Tuesday, Sept. 20.
