Transgender Woman Raped in NYC's Historic Stonewall Inn

The historic Stonewall Inn, birthplace of the modern gay rights movement, was the shocking site of violent crime this weekend when a transgender woman was raped inside one of the iconic bar's restrooms.

According to a report in Gothamist, the incident took place on Saturday night around 11:40 p.m. inside a single occupancy unisex restroom at the Greenwich Village bar. According to police, a man who said he only need to wash his hands came into a restroom occupied by a 25-year-old transgender woman. He then started to grope and then allegedly raped the victim.

The victim, who left the bar after the incident, returned after midnight to call 911. She was taken to Lenox Hill Hospital for treatment.

According to Metro, the attacker was described as a Hispanic male 5-foot-10 and weighing about 250 pounds.

No arrests have been made.
