Kiehl's LifeRide for amfAR Launches Whoopi Goldberg & Dita Von Teese PSA

EDGE READ TIME: 3 MIN.

Maintaining its long-standing tradition of supporting HIV/AIDS charities, Kiehl's Since 1851, the venerable New York-based purveyor of fine quality skin and hair care, is pleased to announce a new public service announcement campaign "The Cure Is In Your Hands," featuring Whoopi Goldberg and Dita Von Teese.

This PSA partnership with amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, will raise awareness for HIV/AIDS statistics in the U.S. leading into the 7th Annual Kiehl's LifeRide for amfAR, an 11-day celebrity fundraising motorcycle ride throughout the Northeast U.S from August 3-13.

"Each year that we embark on LifeRide, we aim to raise more noise, awareness and funds for amfAR than the previous years. This year, honored amfAR supporters, Whoopi and Dita, are lending their voices to do so," said Chris Salgardo, Kiehl's USA President. "I'm so proud of all their efforts to raise more visibility and funds to help make AIDS history."

Kiehl's partnered exclusively with two American female stars: the award-winning actress, comedian and TV host, Whoopi Goldberg, and the biggest name in burlesque in the world, Dita Von Teese, in print visuals photographed by Kevin Tachman and a special video produced by A76 Productions. Both women have generously supported amfAR initiatives throughout the years.

Also appearing in the video are four real people openly living with HIV including Regan Hofmann, the editor of POZ Magazine and a chair on the amfAR board. By introducing this charity campaign, Kiehl's is broadening support and raising awareness of the need for a cure for HIV/AIDS, still a grave epidemic both in the U.S. and around the world.

The Kiehl's for amfAR PSA highlights these devastating statistics:

There aremore than 1.2million people living with HIV in the United States. And,approximately 1 in 8of those people doesn't even know they're infected

Approximately 50,000 new HIV infections occur in the US each year

137 people are infected with HIV every day, and nearly 6 people per hour

1 in 4 people living with HIV in the US are women

More than 650,000 people have died of AIDS-related causes in the U.S.

Kiehl's has already pledged to raise $150,000 for amfAR throughout this year's ride. By the conclusion, Kiehl's will have raised $1,600,000 for amfAR, since 2010, funding eight cure-related research projects.

"I'm thrilled to be an amfAR supporter to help kick off this year's campaign for Kiehl's LifeRide. As a long-time advocate in the fight against HIV and AIDS, I am confident we will find a cure in our lifetime," said Dita Von Teese.

Although the ride ends August 13th, the fight against AIDS does not. Kiehl's customers can join the fight against HIV/AIDS by purchasing the below charitable product during the entire month of August.

Kiehl's customers nationwide can join the fight against HIV/AIDS through the purchase of Kiehl's Limited Edition Ultimate Strength Hand Salve, a jumbo-size of the brand's classic formula. All net profits from the sale of this product, up to $25,000, will benefit amfAR. The Limited Edition Ultimate Strength Hand Salve is adorned with a red cap and will be available for $28.50 at all Kiehl's retail stores, Kiehls.com and specialty store partners nationwide.
