On Saturday, October 22, the Palm Springs community comes together for the Desert AIDS Walk, raising funds for the Desert AIDS Project. Participating in the walk is Del Shores of "Sordid Lives" and "A Very Sordid Wedding" fame. His team captain, Stuart Bell, has organized a Sordid Lives team to help raise funds to help people living with HIV/AIDS.

"So many live with HIV in the desert and are helped by this amazing organization -- and now we can help them!" said Shores.

Shores and his team set to reach a goal of $20,000, and have already surpassed it, raising nearly $23,000. Among top fundraising pages is that of Sarah "Juanita" Hunley, the "Sordid Lives" star who recently passed away. Fans are asked to donate in her memory by clicking here.

The Desert AIDS Walk is celebrating 30 years of "Walking To Make A Difference." Each year since 1987, when the historic first steps were taken, the Desert AIDS Walk has united more than 2,500 community members to raise funds for the vital services provided by the Desert AIDS Project. The organization has a national reputation as one of the most comprehensive HIV/AIDS service providers in the U.S.

The Desert AIDS Walk has made it possible for the Desert AIDS Project to provide their patients andclients withan unparalleled range of services includingmedical and dental care, medications, food, housing, behavioral health counseling, back to work training and so much more all under one roof.

Simultaneously, they are working harder than ever to help bring about an end to further HIV infection in the Coachella Valley. They are the lead agency on Get Tested Coachella Valley, whose mission is to get 100 percent of the Coachella Valley tested for HIV.

Join Del Shores and the cast of "Sordid Lives" as part of the sequel's "A Very Sordid Wedding" AIDS Walk Team. Raise a minimum of $250 and you get a free "A Very Sordid Wedding" T-shirt.

"With each step we take and each dollar we raise, we can test more people, bring more people who are HIV-positive into care, and move one step closer to an AIDS-free generation," writes Team Sordid Lives on their fundraising page.

Please consider joining the team and walking -- or supporting in other ways by posting, giving, or Tweeting.

"If you cannot be part of our team please donate to this amazing organization, Desert AIDS," said Del Shores. "All the sordid people become sordid with us and come walk with us!"

The Desert AIDS Walk is a 2.5-mile loop that starts and ends in Ruth Hardy Park on Saturday, October 22. This year marks the 29th year for the event, which has raised $6.5 million through individual walkers and sponsorships from local businesses.
