Aura Health App Provides Mindful Meditations to Counter Stress and Anxiety

READ TIME: 3 MIN.

In today's fast-paced world, most people live lives overwhelmingly filled with stress and anxiety, rushing from place to place and task to task. Despite needing professional help, most people choose to either suppress their mental health issues to avoid showing weakness vulnerably or seek treatment without much success because of time and financial constraints.

Starting the day with mindfulness and meditation often feels more aspirational than realistic, since finding the perfect meditation is the last thing on anyone's mind in the morning -- by the time they find a meditation that might fit them, the window of time they had to meditate before the kids get up or their boss calls is gone. Aura Health aims to change all of that.

Aura, a machine learning-driven meditation app, algorithmically builds and offers a customized meditation program for users, easing them into their mindfulness practice with meditations that suit their unique needs. When a new user joins Aura, they are asked a few questions to help the app understand their needs and their familiarity with mindfulness.

Based on their responses, Aura sends them a three-minute guided meditation each morning. After each session, users provide feedback, enabling Aura to send them meditations that address their feedback. Over a few sessions, Aura becomes more and more in-tune with a user's needs.

Steve Lee, co-founder and CEO ofAura Healthsays, "We all know that taking care of our mental health is important and that mindfulness can be effective in improving it, yet most of us can't find even ten minutes for simple mindfulness exercises every day. We're all busy, tired, distracted, and somewhat broken."

He adds, "These meditations, created by world's best meditation teachers and therapists, are focused on providing immediate emotional support. With Aura, technology and mindfulness are coming together to make humans happier; we're creating data and building intelligence around how to improve people's moods through mindfulness most effectively, and we're successfully changing people's habits."

Aura Premium users can increase their daily sessions each day, lengthening their sessions to up to seven minutes. Users indicate how they are feeling that day --for example, "stressed" or "depressed" -- and Aura chooses the best meditation for their needs. Premium users also receive unlimited access to meditations.

Aura Health co-founder Daniel Lee adds, "Stress affects 75 percent of the U.S population. Anxiety is affecting a staggering 40 million adults -- yet only one in three affected seek treatment."

Lee explains, "Taking care of mental health is extremely hard and there is no easy solution. My family, my closest friends, and I all went through dark times and know it. But there is one solution that is scientifically effective and requires just a bit of time every day -- it is mindfulness. It physically rebuilds our brains and has been transforming our lives and even corporations. We want to make mental health care accessible and a priority to every person fighting stress and anxiety through mindfulness."
