Broadway Princess Party

Last Friday night, locals may have noticed an awful lot of ball gowns and tiaras flowing in to the Berklee Performing Arts Center as "Broadway's Princess Party" stopped off in Boston.

Created by Benjamin Rauhala, Massachusetts native musical director and self-described Fairy Godfairy, the show brings together three of Broadway's original Disney princesses in an evening of songs and stories.

Hosted by two-time, Tony-nominated star, Laura Osnes ("Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella"), the evening includes Susan Egan (Tony-nominated for Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" & voice of 'Meg' in Hercules), and Courtney Reed (the original 'Jasmine' in Disney's Aladdin on Broadway). In addition, they include a few special guests including Adam J. Levy as the evenings Prince.

Over the course of about 90 minutes, the three women visit every possible princess song in the Disney cannon – always impeccably of course. Although there a few surprise numbers that really stand out, especially after all of that Disney sugar.

Susan Egan's "Somewhere That's Green" from "Little Shop of Horrors" is an utter delight, and Laura Osnes' "On the Steps of the Palace" from "Into The Woods" gave us a glimpse of a much more satisfying Cinderella than the one for which she's known.

It's a delightful evening full of smiles and laughs, and suitable for all ages as proven by the multi-generational house.

The audience is even encouraged to "cos-play" for a chance to win a special princess prize. And the costumes were not confined just to the little girls in the audience who often carried the doll of their favorite princess.

As the show continues is stops across the country, fans of Disney should definitely not miss this practically perfect evening.

"Broadway Princess Party" heads to Texas, Ohio, Kansas, Nebraska and Washington state during October. visit the "Broadway Princess Party" website for upcoming dates and further details.
