Streaming Queer: February 2024

Andrea Marks Joseph READ TIME: 14 MIN.

February is set to be a fun month for queer streaming. We've got a tour documentary from Lil Nas X, a murder mystery set on a cruise ship, JLo's movie-memoir extravaganza, a historical drama focused on the intersection of fashion and political history, an opportunity to watch Britney Spears' acting debut in teen classic "Crossroads," and so much more!

"Long Live Montero"

This documentary follows Lil Nas X (whose government name is Montero) on his Long Live Montero tour. The groundbreaking artist brings us along on his experience of coming out, expressing queerness, writing music that inspires his audience, and ambitions to make his mark on Black music history. Montero shares his perspective on the polarizing responses to his music and controversial videos, the spectacular adventure of performing on tour, and navigating relationships with his family as he experiments with fashion.

"Long Live Montero" is now streaming on Max.

"Death and Other Details" Season 1

This murder mystery takes place on a cruise ship, where Imogen (queer actor Violett Beane) is holidaying with her friend, Anna (out actor Lauren Patten), who is set to lead her family's business deal with another wealthy family on board. Anna is on board with her wife, Leila (Pardis Saremi) with whom she shares multiple sizzling sapphic sex scenes throughout the show.

Anna's ex is also on board, played by nonbinary actor Karoline. Family secrets and temptations clash, making Imogen's attempts to solve the murder all the more complicated – not least because she is implicated by security footage, and must work with the private detective (Mandy Patinkin) who she knows (and despises) from her childhood. The show is "White Lotus" meets "Succession" meets "Knives Out" with gorgeous men Hugo Diego Garcia and Rahul Kohli frequently on screen.

"Death and Other Details" Season 1 is now streaming on Hulu.

"Chrissy & Dave Dine Out" Season 1

This foodie interview show should really be called "Chrissy & Joel Dine Out" because these two (Chrissy Teigen and Joel Kim Booster) lead the fun, intimate, interesting conversations with their friends (Celebrity guests include Jimmy Kimmel, Kumail Nanjiani, Regina Hall, and Sasheer Zamata) while Chef David Chang is in the kitchen, chatting with the resident chef about their process. The show is an entertaining look at the delicious feasts available throughout the LA restaurant scene, while offering insight into the lives of some of our favorite celebs.

"Chrissy & Dave Dine Out" Season 1 is now streaming on Hulu.

"Mr. & Mrs. Smith" Season 1

Donald Glover and Maya Erskine ("PEN15") are John and Jane Smith in this new take on the 2005 film of the same name. They're strangers who gave up their real lives to work as spies. It's a well-paid position with travel opportunities, but there is a catch: Their assignment includes posing as a married couple. Out actor Sarah Paulson guest stars as their couples therapist who works out of her dream home. Other guest stars include Michaela Coel, Paul Dano, John Turturro, and Parker Posey. In reimagining it as a series, this "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" has a different tone, but promises to be action-packed, humorous, romantic, and filled with the banter we loved in the movie.

"Mr. & Mrs. Smith" Season 1 premieres February 2 on Prime Video.

"Abbott Elementary" Season 3

The delightful comedy returns with its ensemble cast of elementary school staff and their loved ones. We look forward to whatever well-intentioned mess queer teacher Jacob (Chris Perfetti) gets into, and can't wait to see which exciting guest stars will appear this season. It's already been confirmed that Josh Segarra (who played the universally adored, frequently shirtless boyfriend Lance in "The Other Two") has a recurring role this season; Kimia Behpoornia ("Hacks") and Benjamin Norris ("Never Have I Ever") also join the cast in recurring roles.

"Abbott Elementary" Season 3 premieres February 8 on Hulu.

"Couple to Throuple" Season 1

This steamy, explorative, open-minded new reality show features four "curious couples" who are interested in bringing a third person into their relationship, along with 14 single people who are available and already familiar with the poly lifestyle. Every few days, the couples have a chance to invite someone to move into their resort and their bed. At the end of these "experiences," the original couples must decide to either commit to dating as a throuple, stick with monogamy, or break up and leave the show single.

"Couple to Throuple" Season 1 premieres February 8 on Peacock.
