Sexy Salts for Summer
Are you getting ready to show off all that hard work that you've done to get in shape for the summer beach season? Well there's more than one way to get buffed. While your muscles may appreciate an extra set of curls (or a Vinyasa yoga class for those of you who prefer less bulk and a more toned look), your skin could also use a refresher after a dry and dormant winter.
Board certified health coach and wellness guru Haley Hobson says, "Using sea salt as the base of a scrub aids in exfoliation and helps to moisturize and soothe dry damaged skin. All scrubs require moisture (whatever you scuff off must be replaced by a good moisturizer) to ensure optimal hydration for the new dermis. ??Using pure certified essential oils in salt scrubs allows the properties of each essential oil to create a holistic approach to healing and what the salt scrub can actually do for you."
EDGE presents a selection of our favorite salt-inspired grooming products (as well as a DIY recipe) that will sooth, exfoliate and brighten your disposition for the sunny days ahead.
The Level Bath Bomb
Who says a bath needs froth over with the scent of rose petals and lavender? Level Bath Bombs combine essentials oils, botanicals and Epsom salt. Comprised of magnesium and sulfate, Epsom salt can help reduce blood pressure, flush the body of toxins and help form protein in joints. And you’ll smell good, too.
Founded by Jonathan Dubuque and Sabrina Roberson, the handcrafted products are developed and produced at The Brewery in Los Angeles - the world’s largest art complex according to the Los Angeles Times.
We recommend Frankincense & Myrrh or the Costa Rican inspired Foret.
Repêchage Sea Spa Glow with Dead Sea Salts
Salts from the Dead Sea will help you feel alive again by providing a high concentration of minerals that include magnesium, calcium, potassium, bromine and sodium. The cumulative effect can help increase circulation, energize and replenish minerals important to skin metabolism.
The Sea Spa Glow also includes a proprietary blend of EcoCert seaweeds that contain 12 vitamins, 18 amino acids and 42 trace elements. Think of it as your ultimate daily skin supplement, and with notes of peppermint and spearmint oil, you’ll feel tingly fresh from head to toe.
Anthony Logistics Sea Salt Body Scrub
Founded by Anthony Sosnick in 2000 as a response to an unfilled niche for men’s grooming products, Anthony Logistics has grown to encompass a broad range of grooming and beauty products. The company donates a portion of proceeds to support prostate cancer research, which effects one out of every six men in the U.S.
The Sea Salt Body Scrub relies on sea salt to exfoliate while sea kelp extract nourishes, and a touch of aloe vera gel soothes the skin. Nutmeg extract and vitamin C contribute to a formula that is clean and masculine but still manages to leave your skin soft and prepped for moisturizer.
VitaMan Sea Salt Body Scrub
Leave it to a couple of sexy Aussies to come up with this unique, nourishing body scrub. The two co-founders lived across from one another in an inner city Sydney apartment complex for six months before discovering their mutual interest in men’s skincare and grooming. They spent two years doing research before officially launching the brand in 1999.
This scrub from "down under" features locally sourced coastal sea salt - a natural, gentle exfoliant perfect for eliminating dead skin cells and leaving skin feeling smooth. Other ingredients include aloe vera gel, macadamia nut oil, patchouli oil, almond sweet oil and cinnamon extract. Ground wattle and walnut seeds provide an additional exfoliation.
Hudson Made’s DIY Honey Salt Scrub
Who says you need to spend a lot of money on fancy packaging when you can gather a few essential ingredients to make your own personalized salt scrub? Hudson Made, a procurer and developer of artisan products from the Hudson Valley and New York City partnered with Brooklyn-based holistic health counselor Jessica Shepard to develop an easy base recipe using their Bay of Fundy Sea Salt.
