Actor Tommy Martinez Talks Playing Bisexual on New Show 'Good Trouble'

Friday Jan 11, 2019

"Riverdale" actor Tommy Martinez is starring in a new Freeform series called "Good Trouble" where he plays a bisexual graphic designer. He recently opened up about his own sexuality, discussing an encounter with a man.

According to IMDb, "Good Trouble," a spinoff of the popular series "The Fosters," is about "Callie and Mariana Foster move to Los Angeles and begin their lives as young adults." In the show, Martinez plays graphic designer Gael Martinez, who is bisexual.

After "Good Trouble" debuted this week, the stars of the show appeared at a panel in Los Angels, which included Martinez, and costars Sherry Cola and Zuri Adele, The Advocate reports.

During the panel, Martinez, 26, discussed his sexuality and Gael's sexuality.

"With his sexuality, in the places I grew up in, it was something that was never talked about, nor was it ever challenged," he said, according to The Advocate reports. "I know plenty of people from my high school that are gay but are still not out to this day."

He added:

"I had an experience with a man maybe 10 years ago and this is the first time that I'm saying that publicly. Throughout that whole time, I felt like I was put into the shadows, because the way that my community was, the way that they spoke about [LGBTQ people], [the] Hispanic community, it's not only just them, but they are very religious and strict on what they believe it, but same with many other people in the world and here in America."
