Kirstie Alley on Sexual Misconduct Allegations: 'Can't Confront Your Accuser?'

Thursday Nov 30, 2017

Kirstie Alley is facing a wave of Twitter backlash after tweeting about the recent spate of sexual misconduct allegations in Hollywood.

"What the hell is happening?" the 66-year-old "Cheers" actress wrote Wednesday. "We now live in a country where people lose their jobs when accused of something without proof or trial or in some cases w anonymous accusers?

"Can't confront your accuser? This is bullshit. And IT HURTS THE REAL VICTIMS of abuse. AND innocent people," she added.

Alley's remarks came the same day Matt Lauer was fired by NBC after receiving a complaint about "inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace." Nevertheless, the "Fat Actress" star wrote that her tweets were not specifically about the ousted "Today" show host.

"I may be mistaken (I'm not) I don't believe I've ever mentioned Matt L. in ANY tweet EVER. another example of MISDUPLICATION [sic] run a muck," she wrote.

Still, Twitter users were quick to call Alley out and accuse her of victim blaming.

Alley later tweeted:

Earlier this week, "Murder, She Wrote" star Angela Lansbury, 92, came under fire on Twitter an interview where she said, "sometimes women take the blame" with regard to sexual harassment against them.
