All-American and unstoppable! Leading NFL superstar Aaron Hernandez was among one of the youngest players on the field. Having secured for himself a coveted position as a tight-end on the championship New England Patriots, how could anyone have imagined the secrets the Connecticut native was hiding even as he was pursuing a meteoric rise as one of football's most celebrated athletes. In the Netflix Original Documentary "Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez" a portrait of a sociopath takes shape.

The 3-part documentary follows one of the most recent and controversial high-profile murders in recent years, and the stunning revelation of Hernandez's connections and/or reasons for leaving a trail of blood that leads straight to the playing field of the Super Bowl. It reveals the upbringing of Aaron Hernandez, who as early as high school in Bristol, Connecticut started to carve a path for himself as a star player. His father was his coach and instilled discipline in his two boys, and tolerated no less than perfection from them.

Even during his adolescent years, Aaron appeared determined to make it big, but he was just like any other teenager and experimented with drugs and sex, even engaging in gay-sex with a close friend, all the while fighting to get in the game, at whatever was the cost. Dealt an early blow when his father suddenly dies, Aaron begins to falter on his path and gets mixed up with some shady characters. Though he still appears a shining contender to go pro, Aaron heavily turns to drugs and drinking and acts out in violent ways — often quick to anger and confrontation.

Does Aaron's sexual confusion perhaps begin to push him to escape his familiar surroundings? And even though his star begins to climb, he can't stay out of trouble. Feeling the need to prove himself, Hernandez adopts a "gangster" like attitude, carrying handguns in public and even when he lands himself a position with the winning New England Patriots, on the eve of starting his first season, Hernandez is apparently mixed up in the murder of another aspiring athlete Odin Lloyd. He's convicted of that crime, and it isn't long before two other murders surface.

How Aaron Hernandez spirals out of control is a frightening case. A combination of things become the focus of his decline, his mental state, his sexual confusion, and years of taking hits on the field that were putting this 27-year old player in risk in the NFL, but no one was aware of how to diagnosis the issue. With exclusive interviews from many of the people who knew him, and the reporters and investigators who were on the case, Netflix's newest crime documentary "Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez" is as shocking as it is tragic.
