Tadd Fujikawa Comes Out, Becomes 1st Openly Gay Pro Male Golfer

Thursday Sep 13, 2018

Professional golfer Tadd Fujikawa made sports history when he became the youngest golfer to compete in the U.S. Open at age 15, but he's making history again this week. In a moving Instagram post, Fujikawa came out as gay, making him the first out male professional golfer.

In his post, which is a selfie, the athlete noted it was World Suicide Prevention Day, which helped inspire him to open up about his sexuality.

"So...I'm gay. Many of you may have already known that," Fujikawa, 27, captioned the pic. "I don't expect everyone to understand or accept me. But please be gracious enough to not push your beliefs on me or anyone in the LGBTQ community."

"My hope is this post will inspire each and every one of you to be more empathetic and loving towards one another," he continued, later adding, "Now I'm standing up for myself and the rest of the LGBTQ community in hopes of being an inspiration and making a difference in someone's life."
