A popular bakery located in Schuylkill, Pa., is coming under fire this week after owners refused to sell a cake to a same-sex couple, Northern Pennsylvania's NBC-affiliate station WBRE reports.

According to couple Bethany and Jennifer Petrich, they requested a cake to celebrate a ceremony to renew their wedding vows. They wanted a dessert from the popular Cake Pros bakery.

"I loved the work they did and it tasted great. It's a hometown bakery. I wanted to support my hometown," Jennifer Petrich told WFMZ. "My mom, who is planning our wedding, called and made the appointment for us. It was okay at that time and she was open and honest and said it's for Bethany and Jennifer."

The women say things went down hill after they received a phone call from the bakery.

"They had called and said to her that they were a Christian bakery and the owner had talked to Jesus for two weeks and that because it was two females getting married she couldn't make our cake," Jennifer Petrich said.

Bethany Petrich added that she is "very disappointed" with the situation. They couple took to Facebook to get the word out abut the incident, which focused attention on the bakery.

The bakery's owner, Lorraine Fleming, is sticking to her guns, however.

"I'm not sorry for my decision and I feel strong. I know that I'm doing the right thing," she told the news station. She added there are LGBT members in her family and the decision was hard to make but it was based off her religious beliefs.

"I'm sorry for the damage that's been done as far as hurt feelings," she said.

Fleming said she and her employees have been harassed and that the bakery had to take down his Facebook page due to heated comments.

"We asked her to make us a wedding cake and not marry us. I didn't understand," Jennifer Petrich said.

Pennsylvania legalized same-sex marriage earlier this year.

PA didn’t legalize same-sex marriage. The law was struck down. Everything between Philly and Pittsburgh is still highly conservative. There are still zero LGBT protections in that state. After living there 9 years this is why I left PA for New England in 2013.

Why should anyone have to "lie" to "get around the ’rules’ "? What "rules" are legal when they deny citizens the right to purchase an item? In Hillsboro, OR a man was denied the purchase of a mattress because the store owner disagreed with the customers bed partner. When and where does this ridiculous "Christian", Bigoted behavior end? How many Christians deny Adulterers the purchase of a mattress? How many deny second and third marriage participants the right to a wedding cake? Pleeeeease.
