Sarah Paulson has reportedly landed her next character role as infamous cult-like Christianity connoisseur Gwen Shamblin.

As reported by Deadline, Paulson will star in a scripted show that adapts HBO MAx's docuseries about Shamblin called, "The Way Down: God, Greed, and the Cult of Gwen Shamblin." Paulson's series will reportedly be titled "The Way Down."

Shamblin rose to infamy through her Weigh Down Workshop, a Christian-based diet program. She also founded the Remnant Fellowship Church as its charismatic figurehead and was later accused of emotional and physical abuse and exploitation through the church's cult-like practices.

Launched in September on Hulu, the HBO Max "The Way Down" docuseries has become Hulu's most-watched docuseries.

The seven-part docuseries examines Shamblin and her husband, including the mysterious circumstances around their deaths in a plane crash. It also includes stories from participants in their church fellowship and their reactions after Shamblin's death.

Paulson will executive produce the scripted project, along with show runner Michelle Dean, Chrissy Teigen, Marina Zenovich — who directed the docuseries — Nile Cappello, P.G. Morgan and Luke Dillon. Rebecca Evans and Ross Girard serve as co-EPs, Deadline reports.
