Out comedian Joe Lycett decided not to put his money where his mouth is.

As reported by BBC News, Lycett has become one of the most vocal opponents of David Beckham's role as an ambassador for the Qatar World Cup, among others.

After initially threatening to shred £10,000 in protest of Beckham's involvement in the World Cup, urging the footballer to use his status as an LGBTQ icon to call attention to Qatar's human rights violations, there has been no response from Beckham.

Lycett did livestream himself destroying some cash on Sunday night, to great social media fanfare. But he now admits that the cash was fake, and he donated the money to an LGBTQ charity instead.

On Monday, Lycett confirmed he had in fact donated the money to charity.

"In fact, the 10 grand had already been donated to LGBTQ+ charities before I even pressed send on the initial tweet last week," he shared. "I would never destroy real money," he added. "I would never be so irresponsible."

Well, at least someone is being responsible ... cough ... Beckham.

Addressing Beckham directly, Lycett said that he "never expected to hear from you." He explained, "It was an empty threat designed to get people talking."

He added, "In many ways, it was like your deal with Qatar, David - total [rubbish] from the start."

Ouch. See Lycett's explanation below.
