Tommy Dorfman Posts In and Out of the Bathtub Thirst-traps

After Netflix "13 Reasons Why" became a sensation, genderqueer/nonbinary actor Tommy Dorfman's Instagram followers jumped almost overnight to 800,000. On the show for the Seasons 1, 2 and 4, they played Ryan Shaver, an out teen at Liberty High with a complicated relationship with Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford), whose suicide drives the drama.

Dorfman even put their own stamp on their character in a bold way. In an early episode they calls themself "a skinny faggot who writes poems," which shocks Hannah who chastises them for using that word. "You're not. I'm allowed," they responds to her. "It's a powerful moment — a gay teen character escaping those tired victimized and "closeted" clichés, and instead being enviably at peace with himself," writes André-Naquian Wheeler in a 2017 interview with the actor for i-D.

The offending word was not in the original script, but Dorfman asked the episode's director Gregg Araki if they could include it. "I feel like as a gay person there's an ownership to that word. Like, taking on that word so other people can't use it to harm me — not that it's not painful sometimes."

At 28, the married Dorfman (they tied the knot with Peter Zurkuhlen in 2016), is equally at home with acting and activism. And their Instagram features countless pics that would leave Candace Owens fuming; but what is catching attention today are three thirst-tweets of them almost nude and in-and-out of a bathtub.
