JoJo Siwa told Jimmy Fallon her "perfect" girlfriend encouraged her to come out last month, Vulture reports.

On Wednesday, the 17-year-old "Dance Moms" star appeared on "The Tonight Show" and said she posted a photo of her "Best Gay Cousin Ever" T-shirt to her Close Friends Instagram Story a week before coming out last month. She said she realized there had always been fan speculation about her sexual orientation. While on the phone with her girlfriend, Siwa said "I kinda just want to post this picture on my real Story." Her unnamed amor — who Siwa described as "the most amazing, wonderful, perfect, most beautiful girlfriend in the whole world" — encouraged her to "do it!" She did, and the rest is history.

The response to Siwa's coming out has largely been positive. Revealing that she's working on a musical for Nickelodeon based on her own experience, a project aimed at encouraging people to be themselves. However, Siwa told Fallon, "if I lost everything I created because of being myself and because of loving who I want to love, I don't want it. That's not what I want if I can't love who I want to love."
