Scottish actor Thomas Doherty plays Max Wolfe in the new "Gossip Girl" series on HBO Max. Not much is known about the character's background and intentions so far other than he values "freedom" and is pansexual.

Pansexuality means that Doherty gets to kiss a lot of women and men on camera for the role and the whole experience had him questioning his upbringing he told Variety.

"That was definitely interesting ...Obviously my character, Max, is pansexual and for me it's always amazing when you play a part to see what you can kind of draw from that and what you can compare it with in your own life, your own beliefs," he said. "And it definitely did make me question how I was brought up and have been conditioned to think in terms of gender and gender identity and sexual preferences stuff. That kind of threw that all up in the air and it was kind of very liberating. It's been an amazing experience for me, definitely."

The original "Gossip Girl" series on the CW went off the air almost a decade ago. Compared to other coming-of-age shows with major LGBTQ representation such as "Riverdale," "Euphoria," and "Elite, the show has been described as tame. However, only time will tell how the show makes a cultural impact.

Gossip Girl is available to stream now through HBO Max. Will you be watching?
